Melbourne, meet Merlo

Merlo Coffee has opened its first Torrefazione roasting house in Melbourne at the iconic Queen Victoria Market.

For many coffee lovers in Melbourne “it’s about time”.

Merlo, famed for its commitment to premium flavour and authenticity in its home state of Queensland, has now opened its first Torrefazione (Italian for roasting house) in Melbourne at the iconic Queen Victoria Market.

Now Australia’s leading independently owned and operated coffee roaster, Merlo proudly holds the back-to-back titles of Australia’s Favourite Coffee through the country’s biggest people choice awards in FOXTEL’s I Love Food Awards.

The Queen Victoria Market Torrefazione, located at the top of F Shed on Peel Street, is roasting daily and selling our famous fresh espresso and freshly roasted beans.

“This is a major line-in-the-sand for Merlo. While we have a family of wonderful cafes and restaurants that proudly serve Merlo in Melbourne, up until this point we haven’t roasted locally,” said Merlo Founder Dean Merlo.

“After years of planning, our long-term vision is now a reality; not only will the famous blue Merlo Coffee cups now be seen around Melbourne, but we will be roasting beans, ensuring our commitment to freshness and authenticity is delivered in Melbourne.”

Merlo CEO James Wilkinson said the company has been on the search for a Melbourne location for some time.

“We have been wanting to roast in Melbourne for quite a few years now but the problem was finding a location. The Queen Victoria Market, just on the edge of the CBD, is perfect and the wait was certainly worth it.”

“Being the Coffee Capital of the country, we are excited about working with Melbourne’s leading coffee aficionados and also sharing our incredible love of coffee with a city that adores it.”
