Last year Merlo Coffee partnered with Art From the Margins (AFTM), an initiative of the Wesley Mission, for exciting collaboration – the Merlo Coffee Art Series. We are delighted to announce that the Art Series is back for another year.
The 2016 Merlo Coffee Art Series will feature the work of Nicky Carey titled ‘Jeremy ah go get on yer bike’.
Nicky is a local Brisbane artist who was born in Ireland. With a BA in Fine Art from Ireland’s National College of Art and Design, Nicky’s work has been widely exhibited and is held in private collections in Australia, Europe and the United States.
His works endeavour to retain his childhood vision of the world, but they are not childish, infantile or immature. Within the works are figures and events that are mainly derived from Freudian and Jungian psychology. There is a raw and intimate intensity and an unflinching view of the dark side of the human psyche, with a sardonic record of Illness and suicide to salvage energies of on-going existence. Colour controls the shape of the image and there is always an obsessive use of imagery that is held together with a childlike freedom and playfulness, both in paintings and etchings alike.
Each Merlo Coffee Art Series set is valued at $79.95 and contains two high quality porcelain cups and saucers by German manufacturer Seltmann Weiden. The sets are carefully packaged in a display box and additional fragile postage and handling fees will apply to orders placed online.
